’Honey Cake’ is a simple yet fun to make and easy to style shawl.
It is a shallow asymmetric triangle with 4 sections of 5 lace stripes, worked from the top right corner.
The shawl is decorated with I-cord along the short sides (applied I-cord for the long side is optional)

YARN
The pattern was created for fingering (sock) weight yarn, but can be very easily adjusted for thicker yarns by simply omitting some of the lace repeats
* Main color (MC): ~150g/5.3oz or 600m/650yds of sock-weight yarn. Preferably solid or tonal.

The sample was knit out of Schachenmayr Regia Premium Merino Yak, color 7504 (Gold)

• Contrast color (CC): ~70g/2.6oz or 560m/610yds of lace-weight yarn. You can use a single color, a slow gradient, a gradient set (of 4 colors), or a mini-skeins set.

The sample was knit out of Mondial Kid Seta, 70% kid-mohair, 30% silk, colors 001 (10g/0.35oz), 0426 (13g/0.45 oz), 0599 (15g/0.5oz), 0396 (20g/0.7oz)

Needles 3.25/US 3 (or size to obtain gauge) circular needles on 60-80 cm/24-32” cable

Notions: tapestry needle, scissors and row counter (optional).

Techniques

• Increases: KFB and YO (see below)
• Decrease - k2tog; sl1, k2, PSSO (see below)
• I-cord (along the edge as you go, I-cord bind-off and applied I-cord)
• Carrying yarn to manage frequent color changes
• Reading charts (optional)
