This is a crochet pattern for a gorgeously textured beanie hat, with a simple stitch repeat which gives a honeycomb effect.
This is an adult-sized unisex design, suitable to fit a head circumference between 20-23 inches, measuring 9.5” in height.
I have used an Aran/Worsted weight yarn, with different hook sizes for the brim and main hat, 5mm and 6.5mm.
My honeycomb beanie has been made using Stylecraft Special Aran with Wool, in colour Oatmeal (3378). Any Aran/Worsted weight yarn would work for this project.
Gauge:
Brim - BLO sc ribbing: 2” (5cm) square = 9sc x 8.5 rows
I have used a 5mm hook.
Main - Pattern repeat: 3” (5cm) square = 4 sets of Esc+HCL+ch1 x 8 rows (4 sets) of sc2V+HCL
I have used a 6.5mm hook.
You will need:
Aran/Worsted weight yarn - approx. 190yds
5mm and 6.5mm crochet hooks,
Yarn needle,
Scissors.
Optional extras:
A pompom,
A small button for attaching an elastic loop pompom (10-12mm in diameter),
Decorative buttons (20-25mm in diameter),
Sewing needle and thread for the buttons.
