The Honeycomb hat and scarf are the long-awaited companions to the mitts I designed a few years back! They feature some classic Aran textures - moss, cables, and are cozily knitted up in a soft merino wool blend.

You will also need a cable needle and stitch markers are handy, especially for the placement of the crown decreases when shaping the hat in the final stages.

The finished scarf measures approximately 37cm x 172cm (14.5in x 67.75in). You’ll need 5 skeins of yarn.

The panel repeat for the hat is huge - so much so that it’s tricky so size within normal parameters - but as written, it will fit a head circumference of about 55cm or 21.75in. You’ll need 2 skeins of yarn.

The 4mm needles are for the hat only.

I recommend adding or removing repeats if you need to change the size drastically. Otherwise, going down a needle size (4.5mm) for the main hat fabric is fine for minor changes. Plenty of room for manoeuvre here!

As written, the hat has 4 cable panels or repeats. Each panel measures approximately 8cm when unstretched, measured from the ends of the mini honeycombs either side. This means that you will add or subtract 8cm from the baseline head circumference above for every repeat of the cable panel you add or take off.
