You may well be aware that in humans, only 10% favour using their left hand, me included. However, did you know that a similar thing happens in climbing plants? Only 8% are left-handed, spiralling from right to left as they bind their way up their support, and nobody is sure why.
The Honeysuckle is one of these rarities. For someone born and raised in England it was quite a surprise to find out that this native and much-loved feature of our gardens, woodlands and hedges was a bit of a scientific wonder.
The Honeysuckle flowers with beautiful tubular blooms and a heady, sweet scent adored by insects and people alike.
To celebrate this remarkable plant, I have designed a light, convertible buttoned scarf knitted flat on larger than usual needles for extra drape. The all over filigree lace pattern is both written out and charted, and features cables that twist, of course, from right to left.
I hope that you enjoy twining up this pattern
