Hook Play Baby Beanie
This beanie pattern is worked in the round from the top down. By adjusting the hook sizes, one pattern provides four sizes (preemie, 0-3 months, 3-6 months & 6-12 months). Each size is worked with two hooks. The larger hook is used to make the crown and body, while the smaller hook is used to make the brim. Please refer to the Beanie Dimensions Chart in the pattern for more information about “hook play” while making this beanie.
Remember that not all yarn is alike. The designer used Plymouth Encore Tweed for the body and Plymouth Encore solid for the brim. Final dimensions may vary depending on the chosen yarn brand and your unique tension. Allowances may need to be made to reach similar pattern dimensions.
The Beanie Dimensions Chart provides a little wiggle room per section to accommodate personal tension. As long as you are within that range, the outcome should fit the average baby for that age group.
One skein can make one beanie in each size, excluding the brim work. You will use approximately 62 yds for the 3-6 month beanie body. Choose a complementary color for the brim and pompom for one cute baby beanie! You will also need a stitch marker, darning needle, scissors, and pompom maker of your choice.
The crown is started by making a Magic Ring, and working FPdc increases and transitions into the Lemon Peel stitch in the round, creating a visually pleasing and snuggly warm beanie. A photo tutorial and video tutorial link to the designer’s 10-Minute Tops: The Magic Ring vs. the Adjustable Loop how-to video is provided for your assistance.
