Named for an Emily Dickinson poem (local heroine for me!), this sweet boomerang-shaped shawl uses only 2 skeins of sock yarn and begins with a tiny 1 st cast on.

Stitches are added to the right edge rapidly while decreases are made to the left edge—this creates the fun, asymmetrical shape that makes the zigzag slip-stitch pattern even more impressive.

The colorwork stitch pattern is super easy, and you only ever work with one strand of yarn at a time (it only looks like you stranded!).

The pattern is written out line for line (including the zigzag slip-stitch pattern), or you can follow charts for those who prefer them.

Gauge: 22 sts & 37 rows/4” (unblocked) and 19.5 & 37 rows (blocked) in the zigzag slip stitch pattern on size 5 needles (or size to obtain gauge).

Materials:
1 skein of the Main Color (MC) in Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply (400 yds/110 g, 100% merino shown in Ghoulish), and
1 skein of the Contrasting Color (CC) in Primrose yarns Sophia (414 g/100 g, 80% merino, 10% cashmere,10% nylon, shown in Barley Wine).
400 yds of fingeringweight yarn in EACH of the colors (the MC and the CC).
A size 5 (3.75 mm) 24” (or longer) circular needle or size required to obtain gauge,

Note: This pattern was designed to help you use up some of your sock yarn stash. You can use any fingering weight yarn for the shawl as long as you match gauge and like the fabric it creates. The Primrose yarn has been discontinued, and so you’ll need to substitute. The fiber content can be wool with or without the addition of cashmere or other fibers. The 2 colorways can be from the same base or they can be a little different—just make sure that they are close to each other in weight and yardage. They ply of the yarn won’t make a difference, either, so go ahead and stash dive or pick up a few skeins of sock yarn from your favorite local or online yarn shop.
