Hope cardigan
This pattern is a tested pattern
Thank you to my wonderful and talented testers:
ejmsasha / tuerkis / 4mama2008 / sweetknees22 / wish2knit / yarnymama / SKYSNOTHELIMIT / tsbaskets777
The design is a follow-up from my Hope sweater (see above).
Design
The body of the cardigan is worked in a lovely lace-pattern.
The sleeves are worked in stockinette sts, and could be worked to any length. The hems of the body/sleeves are folded back.
The cardigan is supposed to be roomy and comfortable, with it’s rounded neck, and box-shaped body.
Construction
The cardigan is worked seamlessly (except from the folding back of the hems, which are sewn towards the WS), and top-down.
The construction starts at the upper backs shoulders. Upper back and upper fronts are worked in separate pieces to underarms and the shoulders are shaped by short-rows. At underarms back and fronts are joined, and the body is completed in one piece to bind-off.
The sleeves are worked top-down and in-the-round.
The hems of the body and sleeves are folded back.
The neck-line edge is worked from picked-up sts.
The button-bands are worked from picked-up sts.
Sizes
The cardigan is supposed to be roomy. The sample is worked in size 2, with 15 cm/6” of positive ease.
Finished chest measurements:
88/96/104/112/120/128/136 cm = 35/38/41/44/47/50/54”
Recommended ease: 10 - 12 cm/4 - 6”.
Materials
Yarn: I recommend any light fingering/fingering weight yarn that knits up to gauge. I used “Sock” from Malabrigo to work the cardigan. This light fingering weight, merino yarn comes in skeins of 100 gr/3.53 oz and 402 m/440 yards. Of this specific yarn you will need approximately 900/1000/1100/1200/1300/1400/1500 m = 981/1144/1200/1308/1417/1526/1535 yards. Needles: needle size 3 mm/US2.5 (or to obtain gauge)
Notions buttons, 12 mm/0.5” across, 2 stitch-markers, separate holders, tapestry needle, blocking tools,
Gauge
25 sts/38-40 rows/rounds in stockinette sts/lace pattern = 10x10cm/4x4”, after washing and blocking.
The pattern
The pattern is tested.
The lace is charted, as well as written out row-by-row.
There is a schematic.
Measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.
All necessary stitch-counts are given.
All special techniques are described, with links for the cast-on methods (cable cast-on, longtail cast-on, backwards loop cast-on).
Knitting skills: intermediate to advanced.
Techniques involves short-rows, picking up sts, cast-on methods (see above).
I would have loved to work out larger sizes, but when I had my call for tester I didn’t have testers for above sizes. If you are interested in testing a size 57” or 60”, I would love to hear from you.
Please note that those are finished measurements, and recommended ease is 4 - 6”.
