This beautiful linen shawl is infused with symbols of hope - stars, flame, candles, and leaves. May it bring you, or someone you care about, a breath of life.

This versatile shawl can also be worn as a scarf - it can look soft and romatic, or add a touch of color to your work outfit. If you wish, instructions are added so that you may lengthen the shawl and increase its depth at the same time.

The pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter and intermediate lace knitter - the edging is real knitted lace, beautiful, yet quite simple. The body of the shawl is simple enough to knit quickly yet interesting enough to keep you from being bored.

All the lace patterns are charted; if you have never used a chart before, this pattern is MUCH easier with a chart! This is the perfect time to learn how. if you have trouble with charts, all the lace patterns are also written out in full.

Uses 4.0 mm (US size 6) needles and 5.0 mm (US size 8 needles; for cast-on).
The larger version will require about 355 yd/325 m of yarn.

Happy knitting!

All downloads after April 16, 2012 have the errata fixed.
Errata (Feb 6/12): On the Serendipity Lace chart, please note that the right-hand boxes on Rows 9-12 should also be grey ie. “no stitch,” like the other boxes in that column.
