Hope Springs Cowl
Way back during the first lockdown in the UK in 2020, I designed my first fairisle hat, named Hope Springs.
This is the matching cowl and is warm, snug and fully lined.
Special offer : add both the cowl and the matching hat to your basket and get 30% off the second pattern, no code needed. Previous paid purchases apply if you are a Ravelry member and already have one pattern in your library. (Ravelry allows only one promotion per basket.)
Different needle sizes have been used to add shaping, allowing it flare out at the bottom edge and sit on your shoulders. The lining, as well as adding warmth, lends support to help keep it upright when wearing.
Size (when blocked)
Circumference - 22’’ at top edge and 27’’ at bottom edge.
Approx 6.5’’ - 7’’ high
Materials
Shetland Spindrift is used for the main body to match the hat and Drops Nord for the supersoft lining.
I have used the same colours as the hat (with a couple of extras) but switched the background yarn to Jamieson & Smith Supreme in white. (If you have made the hat in the original colours, you should have enough left to make the cowl and will only need to add a ball of the background colour.)
Alternatively, you can use 4 ply from your own stash in your preferred colours.
Special techniques
Stranded knitting, provisional cast on and 3 needle bind off.
The pattern includes full colour charts, plus a black and white version which might be easier to follow if you choose your own colours.
Colours as shown in the sample -
Spindrift Clyde Blue, Teviot, Danube, China Blue, Moorgrass, Chartreuse, Rye, Sorbet & Lipstick. Plus Jamieson & Smith Supreme in white for the background.
