Hope they never is a hat I hope no one ever needs, designed with a bright ‘find me i’m lost’ inside for use when tramping walking, adventuring or just away from the folk who love and care for you.

A totally reversible hat, one side a totally acceptable colour, the other a bright ‘I’m lost come find me’ colour. This hat was inspired when my teenage son began tramping - amidst television reports of lost trampers, hunters and others being searched for in our beautiful but vast native forests. I knew he would never accept a brightly coloured hat, but realized that if lost he would need one to attract the attention of rest . The first hat was knit in a manly dark grey with a bright orange liner, and has been followed by a second the same for his dad, one in dark blue with a bright pink lining for the daughter - and others by friends. My husband wears his orange side out on construction sites - and grey side out around town.

The hat is cast on at one end, increased knitting in the round until long enough, a transition row worked and then knit until decreased at the other end. there are only four ends to weave in and the 2x2 rib allows for easy accommodation of most adult heads.

Knit the hat long with a generous fold up, and you will have four layers of knitted warmth over your ears, plus insulating air trapped between the layers.

Yarn needed, one hat takes 50g each of fingering weight yarn in two colours,
Technically you can knit the hat from 100g skein, but would loose the effect of the hig vis lining. I got two matching hats from two 100g skeins of sock yarn.
