This charming, yet simple to knit Fair Isle hat is the perfect multi-season accessory to make for yourself or a loved one.

Knitted in the round from charts and instruction, our Hopeful Hearts pattern provides the ideal opportunity to practice and improve your knitting skills on a smaller piece. An alternative design option also allows for playing with colour, and we always include a third chart with our patterns that makes it easy to for you to pick your own colours!

This design also explores altering patterns to your own measurements, and is a great introduction to stranded knitting, corrugated rib, making tassels and pom-poms.

Knitted on 3mm (US size 2.5) circular needles to a gauge of 32 stitches and 27-28 rounds, over 4 inches (10cm) in pattern stitch after blocking.

Height of finished design: 11 inches (28cm approx.)

Circumference of finished design:

Small/medium: for 21-23 in (53-58.5cm) head circumference
Medium/large: for 23-25 in (58.5-63.5cm) head circumference.

Skills required for pattern include; knitting in the round with double-pointed needles, Fair Isle knitting techniques, corrugated ribbing and working from a chart.

Materials:

Version 1: 2 skeins (50g) each of Rowan felted tweed in 00190 Stone (colour A) and 00150 Rage (colour B).

Version 2: 1 skein (50g) each of Rowan felted tweed in 0017 Seafarer (colour A), 00181 Mineral (colour B), 00150 Rage (colour C) and 00161 Avocado (colour D).
