Hops & Meadow Shawl
The Hops & Meadow Shawl is one of seven patterns in issue four of John Arbon Textiles’ in house magazine, The Annual, which will be published in September 2024.
Kits are available for this pattern.
The untamed garden contains many climbing plants, like hops, which grow rapidly, winding themselves around fences, buildings and even other plants. The delicate creeping lace and cabled edging of this shawl celebrates that exuberance, while the body evokes wildflower meadows with their bold pops of colour nestled among the long grass. Made with our hardiest DK yarns, Appledore and Devon Naturals, it’s guaranteed to keep you warm when collecting your harvest from the kitchen garden, or taking a break to listen to the birds.

Pattern Notes
Construction: The cable and lace border is worked first, from tip to tip. The border incorporates two patterns: an 8-row cable pattern (Chart A) and a 14-row lace pattern (Chart B). A marker placed between the chart patterns helps avoid any confusion, especially on WS rows. The main body is worked in a two-colour linen-stitch pattern, with stitches gradually picked up from the border. The shawl is finished with an i-cord cast-off along the full wingspan.
Colour combinations: Choose colours with a high contrast to avoid CC getting lost in the slip stitch pattern.
