Hornet's Honey
Starting with a ribbed cuff and Honeycomb Stitch on the leg, Hornet’s Honey socks also have a garter-stitch short row heel and garter stitch toe.
Other fingering weight yarn such as Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine or Geilsk Thin Wool could be used for the solid sections. Long color changing fingering weight such as Lang Mille Colori Sock & Lace, Zauberball would substitute well for the Kauni.
Approximately 220 yards is needed for the contrast sections of the leg and foot, if longer cuff is desired, more yardage would be needed.
Gauge over Honeycomb Stitch is 36 sts and 48 rnds in 4 inches.
The pattern also includes a recipe for Hornet’s Honey, which Donna describes as “a delicious treat from Soviet times when alcohol was forbidden in the offices but still wanted…delicious on baked apples!”
This pattern complements a glove and a mitten pattern featured the book Lithuanian Knitting: Continuing Traditions by Donna Druchunas and June Hall.
