This illusion knit pattern is of a horse head silhouette.

Update as of December 9, 2008: The file has been updated to include the written K1, P2 instructions.

Update only to written k1, p2 instructions January 21, 2009: Please note that Rows 16 and 32 were incorrect (not enough stitches for the total row). The charted instructions remain accurate. The pattern file has been updated and is titled Horse Illusion Knit Revised 2.

This pattern can be used to create an extra wide scarf - 33 stitches across and 10 inches wide. So, using a lighter weight yarn and/or smaller needles are other options to help decrease the width. (LAW07 used a smaller needle and lighter yarn for her scarf pictured.)

This wider width is also good for a small decorative pillow or the front part of a cute bag.

For the wide scarf, you will probably need 2 skeins of each color. If you are making a small bag or decorative pillow, you will probably use one full skein of each color.

To minimize the curled edges, I suggest placing a towel over the scarf and lightly ironing the curled edges with steam. Be careful not to flatten the purl stitches of the image when ironing - you can lose the effect of the illusion.
