This pattern includes both the hat and headband. Inspired by the origami star shaped boxes I made as a child, this pattern is called ‘Hoshiko’, a Japanese name meaning ‘starchild’. Worked in the round from the bottom up they are worked the same until the colourwork panel is finished. Then either a second garter stitch edging is worked for the headband, or the top of the hat is worked.

This pattern is also available in an e-book with a matching girls top.
