In honor of my first Minnesota winter approaching, I designed this double layered/double sided hat in my two current favorite colors to keep me extra warm the next few months!

Not only does Vice’s Carnal have the warmth of wool, the shine of silk and the luxury of cashmere all in one, but it’s got enough yardage to make two of these hats- so it’s nearly a four-in-one buy!

No double knitting needed, this two-sided beanie starts with a provisional cast-on at the brim and is worked upward as you would a normal one-sided hat, then the cast-on stitches are picked up and the other side is worked just as the first, with reversed colors.

This pattern uses both the continental and throw methods of knitting to obtain different gauges within it’s striped brim and crown. When the pattern tells you to knit continental with color A, and throw with color B, it means you should be holding color A slightly tighter than color B. Likewise, when the pattern says to knit continental with color B, and throw with color A, it means you should be holding color B slightly tighter than color A.
