This pattern (US terms) will guide you to crochet a lovely hot water bottle cover as shown in pictures, made with a combination of granny squares and flower squares, in a diagonal layout.
It is made using 8 ply / DK soft acrylic yarn and crochet hook E (3.5 mm). Wool or cotton yarn will be suitable too, for this pattern. The cover in the pictures was made using Stylecraft Special DK.

At one side of the cover, there will be an opening with button closure, to insert your hot water bottle easily. Finished size will be approx. 15.35” x 8.27” (39 x 21 cm), including the neck.

You can choose any colors that you like and if you work each round of the squares in a different color, this is a great project to use up your yarn scraps, however make sure that all the yarn scraps are the same weight and material.
Choose 1 main color for the borders (white in the sample for this pattern).

The pattern is suitable for a 2 Liter rubber hot water bottle approx. 7.87” x 10.63” (20 x 27 cm), measured excluding spout.

Skill level: intermediate
Approx gauge: Before you start, you may need to check your gauge; crochet 1 granny square according to this pattern (rounds 1 - 5) and measure it. It should be approx. 3.35” x 3.35” (8,5 x 8,5 cm). If it’s not, try again changing your tension, or size crochet hook.

Materials used:

• Crochet hook size E (3,5 mm), 1 button diameter approx. 0.8” (2 cm)
• 2 Liter rubber hot water bottle approx.10.63” x 7.87” (27 x 20 cm), measured excluding spout
• Yarn in DK weight; red, yellow, purple, blue, green (each approx. 26 gr, 82 yds, 77 m) or any colors of your choice, white for the borders (approx. 37 gr, 120 yds, 110 m)
• Tapestry needle, stitch markers, pins, scissors, measuring tape

Stitches used: chain, slip stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, surface slip stitches, bobble stitch (brief instructions included)
