Houndstooth Obsession
I designed these socks as a birthday present for my stepdaughter, Amanda, who LOVES the houndstooth pattern.
If you are new to knitting stranded socks, this would be a good choice as the pattern is just a four stitch, four row repeat and the sole is a simple stripe. First, pick two contrasting colors for the houndstooth – black and white are traditional, but brown and cream, pink and white, or purple and white, would also look great! Then, pick one more contrasting color to be the accents at the cuff, heel, and toe – or knit them with the darker of your two main colors. Be sure to swatch and check your foot sizing carefully, as stranded knitting doesn’t have much stretch. If you struggle with gauge or fit, detailed instructions to modify stitch counts by two or four stitches are included. The houndstooth pattern and sole pattern are provided as charts. The longest float is 5 stitches, but this occurs twice on just two of the rows. Most floats are 1-3 stitches.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or problems! And finally, be ready to knit multiple pairs because it’s easy to get addicted to houndstooth!
Measurements for socks are: 7.25, 8.25, & 9.25 inches leg
