This sweater is designed to be a really relaxed knit that would be perfect to wear on summer’s days spent on the coast enjoying the seaside.

Denim yarn is one of my all time favourite yarns not only because it gives such great stitch definition and is so durable but it’s character continues to develop as the yarn fades with each wash. This design begins with a densely textured border of mosaic pattern worked in two colours (Rowan Denim & Handknit Cotton) and the body is worked using the same motif but with just knit and purl stitches in only Rowan Denim for a more subtle texture.

Designed to be worn with 15 - 20 cm (6 - 8 inches ) of positive ease.

Tension
Because Rowan Denim is designed to shrink after the first wash I would not recommend substituting another yarn for this pattern

Tensions are given for both stitch patterns both before and after washing. Please take the time to knit tension swatches in both stitch patterns and adjust needles as necessary to achieve stated tension.

Mosaic pattern - before washing 21 sts and 42 rows / after washing 21 sts and 45.5 rows to 10 cm (4 in) on larger needles

Purl stitch pattern - before washing 21.5 sts and 30.5 rows / after washing 21.5 sts and 35.5 rows to 10 cm (4 in) on smaller needles.

Needles
Due to the weight and width of the garment pieces I’ve recommended using 80cm (31.5 in) long circular needles in the following sizes;
3.75 mm (US 5) - these are used for finishing the neck only
4.00 mm (US 6)
5.50 mm (US 9)

This design begins with a three colour braided cast on and there is a link in the PDF to a video tutorial which is designed to be helpful if you haven’t seen one before.
After knitting all pieces need to be washed and dried thoroughly before sewing up - remember to wash some spare yarn to use for sewing up!
