Hoya Bella Fingerless Gloves and Cowl
It was not very hard finding inspiration for this leaf-pattern. Everywhere I go there are autumn leaves in all possible shapes and colors. In a month or two they might be covered by snow - knowing this makes me look at, and admire the beauty of natures leaves even more. I wanted to capture lots and lots of leaves in one pattern, without making it neither too elaborate nor with too much fuss. The wool I chose for this pattern has fantastic shine and stitch definition. The slightly variegated wool expresses itself beautifully. When I had found the right combination of stiches and needles it was a great joy to get started!
I wanted to see how far 1 skein of Madeline Tosh Sock would get me - and I found that I could easily work both the cowl and the fingerless gloves/mitts out of 1 skein. That’s what I call great value for money:)
The gloves are worked top-down and in the round, from fingers to wrist. Thumbs are worked afterwards from picked-up stiches and in the round. Basic knitting skills are needed to work these gloves; and as the lace-pattern is simple and repetitive it could also suit as a first-lace-project.
Sizing. The gloves are one-size. By modification of gauge you will achieve different measurements.
At 30/28/26 sts = 10cm/4” you will have a circumference of 7/7.8/8.5”
For best result It is important that you check gauge before getting started!
The cowl is worked top-down and in the round. If you want the base slightly more evasive you work the bottom part of the cowl using needles in one more size.
Sizing. The cowl can easily be modified by gauge and/or by subtracting or adding pattern-repeats. You can practically use any gauge between 20 and 30 sts = 10cm/4”. If you want the cowl to pair the mitts you choose the same wool and the same gauge. I give you instructions for two cowls: The grey cowl is worked at 30 sts = 10cm/4” and has a width of 46cm/18” and a height of 20 cm/8”, The green cowl is worked in Rowan Alpaca Colour at a tension of 22 sts = 10cm/4” and has a width of 63cm/25” and a height of 25cm/10”. You need 2 skeins of Rowan Alpaca Colour to work this cowl.
The pattern is easy to follow with a chart for the lace, as well as round-by-round instructions for both gloves and cowl.
