Winter in all its stern glory was the inspiration of this scarf. A crystalline lace panel flows down the center of the scarf, and anchors the colorwork pattern that was inspired by snowflakes and hoarfrost. The double-knitted scarf is warm and cosy, and will ward off the season’s chill with ease.

Hrívë was the Quenya name for winter, and was the fourth of the six “seasons” in the Reckoning of Rivendell. Hrívë corresponed to the 72 days between modern 1 December and 10 February. It is called Rhîw in Sindarin.

Some experience with double knitting is recommended for this pattern.

I have used two skeins of Nordlys from Viking of Norway in different colorways for this scarf, but there should be no problems using other fingering weight yarns instead.
