This pattern was originally published in issue eight of Nomadic Knits.

This shawl looks intricate, but is designed for the intermediate knitter. Worked from the center out, uses different lace patterns to mimic the bloom and leaves of a wood rose.

I recommend using a yarn without much variegation but with good stitch definition to let the lacework shine.

Size: 56”/ 142cm diameter.

Needles: US 3/ 3.25mm or size to obtain gauge, and US 5/ 3.75mm or two sizes/ 0.5mm larger than gauge needle, in circular 47”/ 120cm or longer (start with magic loop until circumference fills entire needle length); alternately you may start on US 3/ 3.25 DPNs and use increasingly longer circular needles as the shawl grows.

Gauge: 32 sts and 33 rnds = 4”/ 10cm over Chart D.

Yarn: lace weight: 1600 yards/ 1463 meters.

Notions: tapestry needle to weave in ends, stitch markers (you may use scrap yarn in a contrasting color, as you will need 80 markers if every repeat of Chart E is marked).

Sample knit in: Fidalgo Artisan Yarn Marine Silk Lace (51% Silk, 29% Wool, 20% Seacell; 882 yards/ 100g) in Poseidon.
