The humble beginning of this shawl came when Sherry took on the challenge to create a shawl named HUG POINT, with the name chosen she searched for elements to give a feeling of the movement of waves, the sandy and sometimes rocky shoreline and the Point…By modifying an old lace edging pattern(S-264, originally published in Edgings for All Purposes) she brought the elements together.

Then it happened, the moment we all dread as designers, she was at a standstill—knit, rip, re-knit, repeat…Sherry asked Anne to help…working together it all started to flow the Lace, the Waves, the High Tide, the Out-going Tide, Rip Tide, the Point and-of course-the Hug! A collaboration of design elements that flow together and never rest.

Those who have ventured around Hug Point, whether they did so before HWY 101 was built when the beach was the only road or recently, enjoying the Hug Point State Recreation Site, will notice that at Hug Point the elements flow and never rest.
