Hugs and kisses features a smocking stitch that beautifully showcases the colors of variegated yarn. It reminds me of the ‘xoxoxo’ or hugs and kisses, that are signed at the end of letters. Materials
Yarn: Malabrigo Rios-1 skein= 210 yards/100 grams or approximately 122 yards of a worsted weight yarn plus extra if you decide to make the optional pompom. Sample knit in the Diana colorway.
Needles: US 6-4.0 mm 16 inch circular needle
US 7-4.5 mm 16 inch circular needle
(or size needed to obtain gauge)
Gauge: 22 sts=4 inches in stockinette stitch on US 7 needles
28 sts= 4 inches in smocked st pattern on US 7 needles
Notions: Darning needle, pompom maker, stitch markers and double pointed needles.
