Humble Cowl
This project pairs careful finishing techniques with an easy stitch pattern for a sleek-yet-cozy finished cowl.
Humble Cowl is warm, thick, and comfortable as shown in superwash DK yarn (the sample uses Knitpicks Swish DK in Dove Heather), but this easy design could be knit at a larger gauge in worsted yarn for a larger, heavier version, or worked at listed gauge in fingering yarn for a lighter one.
(I haven’t knit a lighter or heavier one yet, so these are hypothetical options, not ones that have been worked out. This should work in yarns from sock- to worsted-weight, but the main thing is that the yarn should at least work up at the gauge recommended; otherwise, the cowl won’t fit over your head.)
Materials:
-180g/445yds/4 balls of Knitpicks Swish DK, or ~445yards of a similar yarn.
-1 16”+ circular needle in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge.
-1 spare 16” circular in a size smaller than the one needed for gauge
-Stitch marker.
-Tapestry needle.
-Waste yarn for provisional cast-on
-Crochet hook, size F-G/3.75-4.0mm
You may want some additional stitch markers to help with the cast-on counts or keeping track of the the beginning of the round, but these are optional.
Gauge:
For the cowl shown, gauge is 20 sts and 24 rows over 4”/10cm, in pattern, worked in the round & blocked.
Skills:
You’ll need to be comfortable with knitting in the round, purling, and weaving/grafting/kitchener stitch.
