(This pattern is being redesigned. Hand surgeries sidetracked the new pattern but when it is released owners of the pattern will get the new pattern for free as an update announcement. I’m hoping for late spring 2020 but my recovery can’t be determined.)
Anyone having trouble with round 8, please be advised the last sc on each side is skipped (decreases). The stitch counts are correct but the wording is fuzzy. The upcoming update will make things more clear.

Fun hummingbirds drink from flowers surrounded by a border of flowers. This 12” afghan square makes extensive use of overlay techniques & is designed for the seasoned crocheter. Would make beautiful pillows for a sofa or bed as well.

Pattern is written in standard American crochet terminology with photo tutorial as you go and charts for edging & center flower. Included is an alternate Tulip edging chart if you’d prefer tulips rather than violets.

*** Pattern suggestion - Don’t use bulky or stiff worsted yarns. I highly suggest Caron Simply Soft yarn for your first time working the pattern until you get the hang of it & adventure into other yarns. A hefty DK yarn could work as well. The puckering in some photos is caused by thicker worsted yarn & usually can be blocked flat using pins to stretch it while wet. Red Heart Super Saver brand yarn isn’t consistent in yarn heft/thickness so sometimes a particular color will work well for the background & other Super Saver colors just want to pucker up because they are too thick. Keep it in mind when picking your yarn out.***

This is NOT applique birds onto granny squares. It is all overlay technique except the central flower is an optional applique.
