Humulus
This is a slip stitch crochet pattern for a pair of cabled fingerless mittens. They are worked flat and sewn together in the end. The cables are shaped with short rows, and the procedure is described with step-by-step photos. This is one of only a few patterns that describe this unique technique, my own invention. Short rows are also used in the shaping of the body of the mittens and the thumb.
I am using David Burchall’s terminology for slip stitch crochet.
Skills needed: experience of slip stitch crochet, including inverse stitches; F (front loop only slip stitch), B (back loop only slip stitch), iF (inverse front loop only slip stitch), iB (inverse back loop only slip stitch)
As usual with slip stitch crochet, the choice of hook is different between crocheters. If you are a “loose crocheter” a 3,5 mm hook is probably best for you to match gauge.
The size can be changed by adding or skipping a few rows.
Also, changing to a fingering yarn make the mittens smaller/tighter.
