Hunter's Star Mosaic Croquilt
The original inspiration for this pattern was a traditional Hunter’s Star quilt. This pattern is my crocheted interpretation of the traditional block.
This pattern was designed to be worked in overlay mosaic crochet, working with one color at a time. It is suitable for adventurous beginners through advanced crocheters.
The pattern includes a charted graph with double crochet stitches marked with Xs and written instructions for working both in rows from the bottom up and working in the round. Basic mosaic crochet information, a tutorial for joining blocks made in the round and border instructions are also included.
The chart and written instructions include clear markings on where to repeat the pattern to create a project in the size of your choice. A project with one pattern repeat will measure approximately 19x19” using worsted weight yarn or 17x17” using dk weight yarn. One block would make a pillow sized square.
The layouts and size options are endless with this block. Several suggestions with both worsted weight and dk weight yarn are included in the pattern. 3 repeats wide x 1 high makes a nice table runner. This is pictured in the listing photos in a dark steel blue and white. 2 repeats wide x 2 repeats high makes a nice lap or baby/toddler size. This is pictured in the listing photos in aqua and white. 3 repeats wide x 3 repeats high makes a throw blanket about 60x60”. This is pictured in the listing photos in berry red and white.
Materials needed for 3 repeats wide x 3 repeats high:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 contrasting colors*
Color A (white) approx 1700 yds
Color B (contrast color - red in sample) approx 1750 yds
Border (contrast color - red in sample) approx 400 yds
Other size yarns such as DK weight will work well for this project using the appropriate hook size for the yarn. The finished size and estimated yarn amounts will be different.
Size H/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain a gauge of about 3.5 stitches per inch for worsted weight yarn or
Size G/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain a gauge of about 5 stitches per inch for dk weight yarn
