Husband Request Hat
The Husband Request Hat came into being because my husband asked for a hat like a store-bought one that he saw. He wanted something that would hug his head, but not too tight, and look good even if he was wearing nice clothes.
Voila! The overall ribbed pattern lets it fit comfortably and looks polished when knitted with a solid or tonal yarn.
Don’t tell my husband, but this pattern really could be worn by the ladies, too.
From other knitters:
“This designer gives you more than a pattern. She links to tutorials, suggests alternative ways to follow the pattern. I’ll be back!” - gtnbtr6
Difficulty: This pattern was written with beginners in mind, so it’s a great project for someone new to knitting or an easy knit for someone more experienced.
Three sizes: regular for heads up to 22.5”/56 cm, large for heads up to 24.5”/61 cm, and XL for heads up to 26.5”/66 cm.
Gauge/ Needles: 24 sts/4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch. US 5/3.75 mm needles (or size to obtain gauge) plus one size smaller. This pattern is worked in the round; 16”/40 cm circular needles will be comfortable to use. You will also need double-pointed needles in the larger size for the crown decreases at the top of the hat.
Yarn selection: You will need between 125 - 200 yards sport weight yarn. This means that, depending on your size choice, you might be able to get two hats from a single 100-g skein of sport weight yarn.
The simple design of this hat lends itself well to both solids and variegated yarns.
Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you have any questions.
