Hydrangea
A miniature realistic version of the Endless Summer hydrangea flower, made in Tunisian crochet. This is made using DMC machine embroidery no.50 thread (the equivalent of 1 strand of floss) and a 0.4mm hook. The total flower measures c.3cm (1.25in) across, excluding the leaves. Using a larger hook will produce a larger flower. The entire flower uses only a few metres of thread.
The pattern involves Tunisian Simple Stitch, short rows, and some standard crochet. A familiarity with Tunisian crochet would be useful but there are full step-by-step photo tutorials of each element of the work that are aimed at the beginner. The flower isn’t complicated to make, but micro crochet can be fiddly simply because of the small stitches.
The tutorials are included with this pattern but are separate pdfs (due to size!). there are three in total: the flowers, the leaves, and making up the final work.
Notions:
0.4mm hook (see photo for alternative sizes)
