The Scandinavian term Hygge (pronounced who-guh) is about creating an atmosphere that brings us comfort, coziness and joy. I hope these knitted candles help to bring hygge into your life.

Love knit and crochet alongs? The Itty Bitty Group is currently running a January Winter themed Along!

During the last winter holidays my daughter suggested we light candles to make our mealtimes more special and so we did! Every time the candles were lit, the meals seemed a little bit tastier and the chatter more joyful. These knitted candle’s are based on our mealtime ones.

The candle is knit in the round, from the bottom up on dpns. The bottom and top are left open so that it stands better independently and so it can be stuffed. The wick is 1 black strand of yarn that is inserted into the middle of the stuffing with a needle. The wax is an I-cord with bobbles that is knit separately and then sewn on in the finishing. This pattern can be adapted to knitting flat.
