I Found Him Lace Cardigan
Claire’s 1960s fashion sense is classic and understated. She dresses for function but also, as a professional and doctor, presents herself with well-tailored clothes and indulges in luxury fibres. While in Scotland researching Jamie’s fate, Claire spent a lot of time in the Reverend’s study. This cardigan is inspired by the crocheted cardigan she wore while reading the Ardsmuir Prison’s annual rolls from the 1750s and discovered that Jamie survived Culloden.
Cardigan is worked flat, in pieces from the bottom up. The Diamond Eyelet pattern is worked all over and carefully calculated to match at the side seams. Back shoulder shaping is fully fashioned with double decreases, and the front shoulders are worked straight with deeper armholes than the back. Sleeves are bracelet length. Front bands, which are picked up and worked out, are reinforced with grosgrain ribbon. If substituting with a sturdier yarn, this may not be required. Collar is picked up around neckline with a small needle and worked with short rows across back neck, then worked with progressively larger needles. This helps the collar fold over and not stand up.
Basic modification notes are included.
#sizeinclusive to a 67.25” / 171 cm finished bust measurement.
This knitting pattern includes written directions, both charts and written instructions, modification notes, substitution notes, front and side images, and schematic with measurements.

1215 (1320, 1405, 1550, 1665, 1805, 1960, 2125, 2265, 2435) yd / 1110 (1205, 1285, 1420, 1520, 1650, 1795, 1945, 2075, 2225) m
Shown here: Cardiff Cashmere Classic (100% cashmere; 122yds/112m per 0.88oz/25g skein); 10 (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20) skeins; sample uses color 652 Mafalda (Plum)
Substitution Notes: Cardiff Cashmere is a lofty dk yarn that is airy, luxurious, and soft. A sturdier dk weight yarn would also work for this design; it would just create a more structured cardigan. The key is to obtain gauge while creating a fabric that has some drape.
