I Heart Eyelet Mitts can be knit over a weekend using one skein or less (the yellow mitts used one full skein of Whitfell DK), and they make a great gift.

Charts for the eyelet and the thumb are provided in addition to the written directions.

Construction: These mitts are knit in the round, starting at the wrist with a decorative edging and working up to the top ribbing, with increases for the thumb that eventually get placed on a stitch holder (finished up with a few picked up stitches). The palm of the hand is mainly knit in stockinette, and the back of the hand uses a variety of stitches and yarn overs to create a heart shape in eyelet.

Finished Size: One size that fits the average woman’s hand of 7 inch (17 cm) circumference / 7.5 inch (14 cm) length, but depending on the yarn you use and its stretchiness, the fit is flexible.

Yarn Requirements: between 109 and 145 yards of DK weight (samples shown, top to bottom, use the following):

• (yellow) Eden Cottage Yarns Whitfell DK in “Laburnum.”
• (plum) Fyberspates Vivacious DK in “Spiced Plum.”

Needles: US size 6 / 4 mm (16” / 41 cm long) circular needles and DPNs.

Gauge: Make sure to check your gauge to ensure a proper fit (it will also affect yarn usage and how aggressively you may want to block your mitts). Knit a gauge swatch: 16 sts / 20 rows = 4” (10 cm) square in stockinette and try on your mitts throughout the knitting process.
