I designed these socks as a variant of a ‘vanilla’ shortie sock, with a bit of a twist. They have a normal sock construction until you get past the heel turn and gusset decreases, then just when you’re getting bored of knitting every round of the foot, a simple eyelet lace pattern begins to create a heart on the top of the sock. Once you finish the lace heart, you’re almost at the toe decreases and nearly finished!
I’ve included both a chart and written instructions for the lace section.
Sizes available: M
Medium - approx. 22cm foot circumference
Women’s : UK 6-8; EU 39-41; US 8-10
Men’s : UK 8-9.5; EU 42-44; US 9-10.5
(men’s sizes are approximate)
You will need:
• Approx 100g of sock/4 ply yarn (approx 400m/437yds)
• 2.5mm short (23cm or 30cm) circular knitting needles - or your preference of double-pointed needles or long circular needle for magic loop
• Stitch markers to mark the end of rounds (+ middle of rounds for gusset decreases, chart, and toe decreases).
Gauge: not critical for this pattern as you try the sock on for size as you go, but please be aware that if you have a very tight or loose tension it will change the amount of yarn you will use and the ‘slouchiness’ of the sock.
The pattern includes a full glossary of terms.
