I Love You Mom Shawl
Early in September of this year, a young woman wrote to me. She wanted to commission a shawl design that she could knit for her mother for Christmas. I was happy to do this for her. Liana asked for the design to include elements of stranding (a new technique to her), some lace and of course, beads. Our own Debbie (Zokermom on Ravelry) had no idea what was afoot. Over the past two months, Liana (alittlebitlee) and I sent messages back and forth as she chose her yarn, her colors and asked questions. More recently, we began texting each other so she could share progress pictures with me. I wasn’t sure how I would be able to secretly teach her stranding long-distance, but I needn’t have worried. She got it right away. Meanwhile, Debbie was chatting about her daughter in the Colorworks by Debi Ravelry group, and she was planning things to turn Liana on to stranding. I couldn’t say anything or I would have spoiled the surprise. These past few weeks have been torture—happy torture—for a gal, like me, who has trouble keeping Christmas secrets! This has been so much fun, and I thank Liana for having the forethought to come up with the idea and for tackling a large project with a new technique for her mother. The “I Love You Mom” shawl is the mother part of our first KAL of 2016. Charts are available to make either the shawlette or the full-sized shawl.
