I Stole a Seaside Cottage
About
I Stole a Seaside Cottage is my first attempt at designing and it was a joy to create.
The name comes from the cabin my best friend and I stayed at when we spirited away to the ocean for the weekend and the room we stayed in was called a ‘seaside cottage’. I wanted to really make the most of our getaway and do something I wouldn’t do at home, but I still wanted to knit. Designing something seemed like a way to combine knitting with trying something new, and this stole pattern was born.
This purchase includes a free copy of I Stole a River. The pattern will be included as an additional file when you complete your purchase.
The heist-themed remainder comes from my love of wordplay and puns. So, the sections have all been tongue-in-cheek named for the stages of commission of a crime or types of crimes.
No crimes were committed in the writing of this pattern.
I’d love it if you would tag your finished garments and works in progress on social media with one or more of the following hashtags:

Yarn and Gauge:
I used nearly 2 whole skeins in two different colorways of a fingering weight single. A looser gauge may put you closer to jeopardy; a tighter gauge may result in more leftover yarn in your stash. Because this item is not a fitted garment, the gauge is relatively unimportant, except in relation to how much yarn you will need to complete your project.
Gauge
Lace: 20 sts x 36 rows = 4”
Garter: 22 sts x 44 rows = 4”
Yarn
Fingering Weight Yarn in two contrasting or coordinating colors, 100g each
Used:
Alexandra’s Crafts Newport(437yds/100g) –
One skein each in: Main Color (MC): Midnight, Contrasting Color (CC): Wind
Malabrigo Mechita(420yds/100g) –
One skein each in: Main Color (MC): Poipu, Contrasting Color (CC): Water Green
In the Deep Hue Sea Amundsen Sparkle(400yds/100g) –
One skein each in: Main Color (MC): Among the Stars, Contrasting Color (CC): All or Nothing
Contributions
Patterns are not written in a vacuum, and I couldn’t do this without the help of a literal tribe of people. People who test knitted, people who knit samples, others who modeled, tech edited, copy edited, provided resources for a variety of information, people who held my hand, wiped my tears and assuaged my anxiety, people who took photos. Heartfelt thanks goes out to each and every one of them for whatever assistance they provided, intentional or otherwise.
