Use any weight yarn you desire - worsted for perhaps an adult to hold, or anything as fine as fingering or DK for a child’s hand.

You can make the cone and ice cream scoop larger or smaller as you wish too (if you are confident at modifying patterns)! All you need to do is to increase the scoop by another 6 stitches, in comparison to the cone. :)
