The Ice Lakes Crochet Top Digital .pdf pattern is a modern easy lace design that works up into a beautiful and easy-going layering piece. It is a size inclusive design with 9 sizes options from Adult XS-5X and a choice of short or long sleeves. There is also an explanation of how to customize the sleeve or top length to the suit your individual preferences. It will be a staple in your wardrobe or make a fabulous handmade gift!

Crocheted in a light DK weight yarn keeping it nice and airy, the stitch pattern is so intuitive and meditative that you’ll finish your top before you even know it! With short or long sleeve options included in the pattern, you can make multiple versions to transition through all four seasons! Layer it over a tank or sports bra in warmer weather or throw it on over a fitted long sleeve base layer in the cold months to instantly elevate your style with a boho chic vibe!

The Island Lake Crochet Top is constructed from two rectangular panels that are stitched together at the shoulders and from the underarm to the bottom hem. The sleeves are added after seaming and worked in turned rounds. The simplicity of this top is in its modern design with no required shaping and clean lines. With 2 inches of positive ease, i.e. designed to measure about 2 inches larger than the corresponding body measurement, the fit is neither clingy nor baggy. The bottom hem hits at about 2 inches below the natural waist making it slightly cropped, but long enough to cover the midriff when paired with most except low rise bottom styles. If you prefer a longer or shorter version, the pattern explains how to easily adjust it. Choose size based on the bust measurement.

Gauge:
14.5 st X 20 rows = 4 inch square in Sc stitch

Notes: I used a 5.00mm hook to get gauge. Changing hook size or tension are the two common ways to adjust gauge. As with any crocheted top or sweater, gauge is critical to get the correct fit. I did not need to block my top, but if you do want to block (a means of evening out sts and opening up lace), check your gauge after blocking the swatch.

Note: If you substitute a different yarn, even one of the same weight, it is extra critical to check gauge. Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek DK measures at about 15 WPI (Wraps Per Inch), and by some standards, it is classified as a Sport (2 wt. or Baby) weight yarn. If you are struggling to get gauge with a thicker yarn, you may consider sizing down as a possible remedy. Also, acrylic is a lofty fiber that doesn’t stretch much. If you choose to use a plant-based fiber such as cotton, silk, or bamboo, your top will likely stretch quite a bit in width and especially length. You may be able to compensate for this by sizing down and/or subtracting some of the rows repeats from the front and back panel.
