This is a general method pattern for adding a pocket to the sole of a sock. The pocket is used to hold an ice pack against the sole of the foot, which can help people who suffer from foot pain at night.

The knitter first needs to choose a simple sock pattern to make, of the design, yarn weight, and length that they like. Then follow my instructions on how to make the pocket. My particular example was knit in 8 ply, for a quick project.

Gauge isn’t important, nor is size, as this is a ‘knit until it fits the right shape’ sort of pattern.

The pocket will only add a small amount of yardage to the sock pattern you choose.

NB: these socks are for bed wear only, not for walking in — you may burst the ice pack if you walk on it!
