The Ice Princess is a rectangular lace shawl featuring a beautiful snowflake pattern on a shimmering ice-blue field. The knitted-on pointed-edge lace border provides a beautiful finishing touch. The design for this shawl was loosely inspired by the Disney film Frozen, as a complement to my Anna’s Capelet pattern. The child’s version would work perfectly for dress-up play, while the adult version would make an elegant wrap over a winter gown. The mohair blend yarn is light but warm, and the heavier DK weight means that it knits up quickly.

This pattern includes two sizes: child (49” length) and adult (65” length).

The gauge is 14 stitches and 22 rows over 4” in pattern. The shawl begins with a provisional cast on and is worked from bottom to top. The border also begins with a provisional cast on and is knitted on to the shawl’s main body along all four edges. The beginning and end of the border is grafted together with Kitchener’s Stitch, making this a seamless knitted garment.

For this shawl, I used Mary Maxim Glitz Mohair DK weight yarn (56% acrylic, 40% mohair, 4% polyester, 480 yds per ball). You will need 2 balls of Crystal Blue #304, or equivalent amounts in a DK weight yarn. You will also need a 24” circular needle in size US 10 or whatever size necessary to get the gauge, and a size I crochet needle for the provisional cast on.
