IDES of MARCH!
IDES of MARCH! is a half-circle shawl featuring eyelet increases, textured pattern repeats, and, as a project, a quick pace when you knit it in sport/DK weight yarn as shown.
You can make it any size you like, and while the pattern is not written for two colors (the two colors were by necessity), it does include a note on where to switch over if you’d like to emulate the look of the sample.
Note:
The buttons still say “optional,” but I highly recommend the buttons. They’re neat. You only need 4-5. You could probably get a similar effect with three.
Materials:
- 1-2 skeins or 330-660 yards Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo
- 1 48” circular needle in US6/4.0mm, or size needed for gauge.
- Tapestry needle
- Removable stitch marker
- Optional: buttons to suit yarn/eyelets
Gauge:
No official gauge! The sample shown has a gauge of about 14 sts and 30 rows per 4”/10cm in pattern, after blocking.
Measurements:
As shown, the sample shawl measures 19”/48cm deep through the center spine, and about 35”/88cm across the wingspan. This is probably the minimum size advisable! It’s easy to customize with more yarn and additional repeats if you’d like to make this into a larger shawl.
The green sample used 53g Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in Immortal, and 51g Malabrigo Washted in Hojas. The blue and green sample used Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo and some handspun merino blend, but if you’d like to closely recreate this color combination, I think Azul Profundo colorway would be a close match for this dark blue.
