When you get sick, the first antibody your immune system makes is this IgM antibody. It has ten binding sites (the ten tips of the five Ys) for maximum germ-busting power! I made this pattern during the COVID-19 pandemic -- I crocheted a coronavirus, and then developed this antibody to go with it :)

This pattern is worked as a single seamless spiral, so no joining pieces is required. Yarn and gage don’t matter; choose a hook one or two sizes smaller than the typical recommendation for the yarn so your stitches are tight enough to hide the stuffing.

The only unusual stitch it uses is a front-post slip stitch (fp-ss) to start the Ys sticking out from the body. One of many online tutorials for this is at https://stitchesnscraps.com/tutorial-front-post-back-post...

If you don’t know (or don’t like) the magic circle to start out with, ch 2 and make the first 6 sc’s into the 2nd ch from the hook. Anything that gives you a nice tight start will work fine!

I made the pictured example using worsted-weight yarn, a 4.25 mm (G) hook, and 10 mm glass safety eyes (googly eyes are also cute). You can stuff with polyfill, scrap yarn, or cut up rags.

This pattern is published for non-commercial use only. If you would like to make these antibodies for sale, please contact me for details.
