Ikaria
Ikaria is a Greek island located in the Aegean Sea, not far away from the Asia Minor coasts. It takes is name from Icarus, After his wings had melted when approaching too close to the sun, Icarus is said to have fallen down into the sea not far from the island. Ikaria is a little shawl that will remind you of the sun, the sea and the holidays, at the end of winter.
It is worked top –down from the neck. You start with garter rows punctuated by two rows of elongated stitches. Then the work continues with lace bands the pattern of which is addictive and easy to memorize. The scalloped edging is worked with German short rows. You will use two strands of wool throughout the work: a strand of lace and a strand of mohair kid silk,.
