I'll Huff and I'll Puff - Bricks
This toy box is available as a single pattern or as The Three Little Pigs Knit Toy Box e-book Collection. A discount equal to the cost of any patterns you have already purchased will be available to you if you decide to purchase the e-book.
Strong enough to keep the wolf out, this toy box will guard your special treasures well. Plastic canvas stands in for wall support, with a brick façade knit around it.

Supplies:
- Loops and threads Charisma - 4 balls in red, 3 balls in off white OR super bulky weight or bulky weight yarn, approx. 350 yards MC and 250 yards CC
- US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, or size needed to obtain gauge.
- Yarn Needle
- 5 pieces ultra stiff plastic canvas, each 10 ½“ (26.5 cm) square (see note)
- Needle and sewing thread to match CC yarn (or clear)
Gauge
15 stitches and 33 rows = 4 inches in brick stitch
15 stitches and 23 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Gauge for this yarn would normally be 11 stitches and 16 rows in 4 inches. I knit with needles 3 sizes smaller than recommended to get a dense fabric Brick stitch has a similar gauge to garter stitch.
A note about the yarn
There is some debate about the weight of Loops and Threads Charisma yarn. As long as you can get the stitch gauge and row gauge for the pattern, you can use either bulky or super bulky weight yarn for this pattern. Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick would be a good substitute.
A note about the plastic canvas and safety (see pattern for more details):
Plastic canvas is available at Michaels and other craft stores. If you cannot find it in the exact dimensions stated in the pattern, you can trim it to fit and join the cut edges to each other.
If the item will be used by a young child and you are concerned about sharp edges, you may want to use extra caution, and add one of these solutions:
-
fabric or felt interfacing for inside
-
extra knitted piece for inside
-
purchased or found cardboard box instead of plastic canvas
