Knitting this scarf is so much fun it should be illegal! The design is made of eight to eleven triangles, each offset from the previous suggesting a spiral. Think of each triangle as a traffic stop where the officer let you go with a warning; avoiding a citation is always a good feeling. There is no joining or picking up stitches; everything is accomplished with short rows. Each triangle has four parts: about an inch of garter stitch, an inch of stockinette with a broken rib border, an openwork lacy part that continues the broken rib border, and ending with more stockinette stitch as the rows get shorter and shorter. When the instructions say to Turn your work, don’t wrap the stitches.
Keeping your place is easy with the help of ring markers and there is very little counting.
The pattern is easy to learn and you’ll be going along quickly with little effort.
I’ve knitted this with a variety of self-striping sock yarns and love every one of them! My favorite, however, was made with the Lilliput Yarn in “Fall Frolic” - her new colorway for Fall 2016. You can see it among my projects here on Ravelry!
Written instructions are clear and include a little bit of humor. There’s also a chart for those of you who prefer that format.
If you’re going to use 50 gram balls of sock yarn, you’ll need three.
