Based on Lewis Carroll’s classic book, Walt Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (1951) is a loopy adventure and coming-of-age story that only gets curiouser and curiouser the more times you watch it. Perhaps the most famous tidsoptimist (a person who is habitually late because they think they have more time than they actually do) in film, the White Rabbit is the catalyst for Alice’s tumble down the rabbit hole, piquing her curiosity and causing her to chase after him. Bespectacled and dressed in a red waistcoat with a large gold pocket watch, the perpetually anxious and tardy rabbit is herald for the Queen of Hearts. As Alice continues to chase after him through Wonderland, she meets Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dodo, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the March Hare, the Caterpillar, and many other strange characters.
Worked in the round from the bottom up on a small gauge to allow for maximum detail, these stranded colorwork mittens are a whimsical ode to Alice, the White Rabbit, and all of Wonderland. Starting with a scalloped edge picot hem, these mittens feature a number of motifs and characters from the film: a keyhole, card suits, a pocket watch mushroom, a grinning Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit with his trumpet, and, of course, Alice herself. Put together, they make a stunning tableau of memorable moments from the film. Decreases on every round toward the top quickly bring the mittens to a point, with the remaining stitches are cinched shut. An afterthought thumb is added on last. Cozy and colorful, these mittens will keep you warm—and on time—through whatever adventures come your way.
