Impressionist Cabbage Roses
This shawl was inspired by one designed by Christopher Salas, but the yarn I was using refused to cooperate for a long cast-on, so I snitched the concept and used it on a simple bottom up triangle that started with three stitches and employed a kf&b increase at the beginning and end of each row. My yarn was a pink camo (Caron Simply Soft) which is mostly greens, browns and tans with a touch of pink, so I decided to use the pink to knit short rows within each longer row. I suggest that you select a yarn with an obvious accent color to make it easier to keep track of the short rows. For me, a #5 needle works best for Simply Soft – but this is an adventure, not a pattern, so feel free to use whatever yarn and needle that work for you.
