In a Japanese Garden
PLEASE NOTE: £1.50 from each sold pattern will be donated to Parkinson’s UK. You can find out more about this charity here.
---{ THE STORY BEHIND THE PATTERN }---
IN A JAPANESE GARDEN is a pattern inspired by Japanese textiles and ceramics. It showcases the various aspects of a Japanese garden, where each element represents a principle or effect. The design takes the viewer through the garden highlighting each element.
It is also a tribute to my late father, who created a Japanese garden at one of our homes. The koi carp pool was always the main attraction and forms the centrepiece in this design. In later life he developed Parkinson’s Disease and so £1.50 from every sold pattern will be donated to Parkinson’s UK.
---{ A BRIEF DESCRIPTION }---
The blanket is constructed using basic overlay mosaic crochet techniques and so is ideal for the adventurous beginner. If you have never used this technique before, the pattern includes a Stitch Glossary which describes stitch formation, hints and tips. The pattern contains specific pattern notes, the written stitch sequence and overlay mosaic charts.
The pattern also includes a stitch created by Craft Pixie. This is described in the stitch glossary, but you can view the YouTube video on the Snowflake Stitch construction if you prefer.
Join the Craft Pixie Crochet Club to see more versions of the blanket for inspiration.
This was originally run as a CAL and the pattern is offered in separate parts to make them more manageable. The full pattern is around 52 pages long! However, I can upload the full version if enough people want it.
---{ MEASUREMENTS }---
52” x45” / 132cms x 114cms approximately (including envelope border)
This is based on Stylecraft Special DK making four repeats of each pattern and working full height patterns for every element.
To make the blanket more adaptable for other yarns, the Lotus Flowers and Tea House patterns are also offered as shorter versions complete with stitch sequence and associated charts.
---{ YARN AMOUNTS }---
The INTRODUCTION provides more information about yarn amounts etc. However, the sample blanket shown was made using Stylecraft Special DK and used (approximately):
French Navy (#1854) - 4 x 100g skeins
Gold (#1709) - 1 x 100g skein
Bluebell (#1082) - 5 x 100g skein
Cream (#1005) - 5 x 100g skein
Always do a sample and adapt yarn amounts accordingly.
