In a New York Minute
This is a simple triangular shawl pattern inspired by the architecture of New York City. The Empire State building appears as a simple lace panel on each side of the shawl. They lean towards one another, seeming to tower – an impression of the city from a country-raised girl. The wedge of lace in the center at the bottom of the shawl evokes the unique architecture of the Flatiron building, another landmark of the city.
A “New York Minute” is used to describe… “an instant: The smallest measurable amount of time in the universe”.
Yes, it’s a bit of an exaggeration that this shawl can be knit up in a New York minute… considering that almost every knitted object takes some time and patience… but as far as shawls go, this one is pretty simple and thus, pretty quick.
The perfect shawl for a beginner shawl-knitter and a great pattern to knit up as a gift because it won’t take as long as most other shawls! The lace is simple and shows of a variegated yarn well, so use up your funky single sock-weight skeins!
