In Real Life There is No Algebra-Sweater
In Real Life There is No Algebra - Sweater is freely inspired by the 90’s TV series Twin Peaks created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The sweater was worn by the beloved character Audrey Horne in Season 1, Episode 4 (“Rest in Pain”), where she walks into the Twin Peaks High School’s bathroom and meets Donna Hayward. Audrey walks around with a cigarette in her hand, talking about how Cooper soon will realize that Audrey is “the woman of his dreams”, that she wants to help figuring out who killed Laura Palmer… And of course, at last, “I’ve been doing some research. In real life there is no algebra”.
The original sweater is quite unique with its laces on the front. If you ask me, it is one of the most beautiful sweaters from the entire show. This interpretation of the sweater is knitted from bottom up mainly with two threads. The front piece is knitted in a different color, only in one thread and with moss stitches to create a lace-like structure. Finally, one line on the front piece is crocheted to ensure a neat transition along the color change. Just like on the original sweater, there must be a thin neckline which in this version is crocheted with double crochet stitches all the way around. Besides the front piece, the body and sleeves are knitted in stocking stitch and ribbed edges. The sleeves are casted off with Italian bind off technique.

Color 1: 200 (200) 200 (250) 250 (300) g. / 7 (7) 7 (9) 9 (10.5) oz Stroll from Knit Picks together with 75 (100) 100 (125) 125 (125) g. / 3 (3.5) 3.5 (4.5) 4.5 (4.5) oz Aloft Super Kid Mohair from Knit Picks or 75 (100) 100 (125) 125 (125) g / 3 (3.5) 3.5 (4.5) 4.5 (4.5) oz Kid-Silk from Drops – or other yarn with same length and gauge.
Color 2: If you want to knit the same color as Audrey’s and therefore want a more brownish color, I suggest: 25 g. / 0.8 oz Tynn Silk Mohair from Sandnes Garn in the color 3161 yenøtt or 25 g. / 0.8 oz Tilia from Filcolana in the color 354 Light Truffle. You can easily use Aloft Super Kid Mohair from Knit Picks or Kid-silk from Drops instead – or another kid silk mohair yarn with same length.
Other: 1 stitch marker, darning needle, scissors.
